Proto-Indo-European Gate Module

The Fire Tender offers clarified butter to the hearth (the hearth is a low cauldron, filled with sand, on which incense briquettes have been lit), saying:

With the burning of the fire we take possession
of the land it lights, of the world it warms.
From here to there we take possession.

With the last sentence, the priest gestures from side to side.
The Fire Tender transfers a briquette from the hearth to the altar (the altar is a low square barbecue fill with sand, on which a fire has been prepared. It must be slightly taller than the hearth), saying:

In the world's very center we light our fire,
here where the sacred and the mundane meet

The Prest says:

Here we light a living flame
through which our offerings will be transformed,
that they might be received by the Kindreds
and secure for us their blessings.

The Fire Tender blows on the briquette, while the priest says:

With our prayers we feed you,
with the breath of our mouths.

Once the fire is going well, the Fire Tender offers butter and the Priest says:

Receive our offering and bless our rites

The Fire Tender says:

s We pray to you, fire,
our blazing gate.

All: Our blazing gate.

Fire Tender:

We praise you, fire
our blazing gate.

All: Our blazing gate.

The Fire Tender offers butter to the altar fire, saying:

We offer to you, fire,
our blazing gate.

All: Our blazing gate.

Fire Tender:

You are our gate to them,
through which they will come to us.

Priest:

Through the gate they come.
The Diwós Sunú come,
nearest and dearest,
to guard, on horseback, on either side.
Xausós comes,
who brings the light
coming before the Brightest Ones.
Páxuson comes,
who leads the traveler,
and all the Celestial Ones come,
shining in their train.
All of them come,
all the gods and goddesses,
to receive our worship today.
Let us sing in their praise!
Let us hail those who have come!
Let us honor them all,
all the gods and goddesses!

The Fire Tender says:

Hail all the Gods!

All: Hail all the Gods The Fire Tender says:

Hail all the Goddesses!

Hail all the Goddesses!

All sing "Hail all the Gods."
