Mithraism was a mystery cult in the Roman empire, and is a particular fascination of mine. There is site after site explaining all the similarities between it and Christianity. These sites imply, and sometimes say outright, that Christianity was influenced heavily by Mithraism, even to the point of saying that everything that is supposedly uniquely Christian was actually taken from Mithraism. Is that true? What do we know about Mithraism anyway? These essays will treat those questions. |
